Many fellow yogis ask me how did I reach such speed in my yoga career and Ive created this for all of you out there who wish to live completely off your yoga income. A year after graduating my Yoga Teacher Training course I was already the owner of a successful yoga studio and had created quite the following here in Panama City and you can do it too. It is not as hard if we play our cards right and try not to waste time in unnecessary learning curves.
1. Start before you are ready.
We will never consider ourselves ready for what we dream about. There's always going to be a little voice in our mind telling us we are not good enough. If you listen to that voice, be sure, you will never take the leap.
All the information we need is out there. Before getting my yoga certification I was already studying every source of material I could find online. It's all out there, the postures, the ethics, the principles. Study with the intention of giving your students an amazing experience and the knowledge will find you. Study in your free time just out of plain enjoyment and start teaching everyone you can based on the knowledge you have found.
In my personal experience, I started teaching yoga months before the certification was even in my plans. This allowed me to create quite a following before getting officially started and my students celebrated my success of actually going to get certified. If you haven't got the opportunity to get certified any time soon, START ANYWAY. You will not regret it since the best source of wisdom you can get is experience. (Don't teach until you are positive you know what is necessary)
2. Be Selective
Know that you deserve the best and choose your moves accordingly. I see many teachers make the mistake of taking any job just to have one. The common belief is that if you land a job then you are doing well. I would have to disagree. I think we need to be selective in these following ways:
3. If you make a mistake, fix it right away.
If you wound up in a place, job, class or anything you maybe thought would be good but isn't. Get out right away, don't linger around with the intention of appearing responsible or committed. The only thing you should be committed to is to your exponential growth in the direction of your dreams. Everything else becomes a waste of time.
4. Be impeccable. Ethics in every aspect of your teaching will assure your success.
Be attentive to details in every part of the class. Don't ever lie to your students, it's better to tell them you do not have the aswers to their questions than lying to them. Pay attention to their safety as much as their enjoyment. Make sure the Savasana at the end is an experience, not just a time to rest. Be impeccable with your thoughts, don't judge any of your students, not even in the privacy of your mind.
5. Dream BIG.
If you want to make a career out of yoga you can't be the one resisting that possibility. If somewhere in the back of your mind you don't believe yoga can provide for you the wealth you desire then make sure you change that belief before moving forward. Look up examples of yogis who have transformed their passion into profitable businesses. Rachel Brathen, Kino McGreggor amongst many others live from yoga, they travel the world and so can you. Yes you can.
6. Keep Moving forward.
Living off yoga is not just about teaching, its about connecting. If you want to be successful you need to put yourself out there. Social media is a great tool, allow everyone to go through this journey with you. Show pictures of your first classes, celebrate your every move and people will start seeing the success in you even before you do. Offer classes in different studios, organize retreats, create online content, market your classes everywhere. Always keep moving.
Hope this can help all of you wondering how to start your profitable yoga career. Please share with anyone who might benefit from reading this.
